Rolling out PONS v2.0
Four months ago, I stepped in as the CTO at PONS. It quickly became clear that building software companies in legal tech comes with a constant tension between stability and speed. You need strong foundations, but you also need the ability to pivot quickly to stay competitive. As we evaluated our tech stack, engineering practices, business approach, and overall routines, I noticed we had a solid platform, but the way we operated it was slowing us down.
At the time, we were running AKS. It worked, but it also introduced operational overhead and pulled engineering attention away from product development and customer needs. With AKS came a lot of unnecessary complexity.
That led us to simplify the platform and rethink how we build and operate PONS. The result is what we are rolling out as PONS v2.0.
Why we changed the platform
As we scaled the product, I noticed that we were repeatedly designing around the platform rather than the problem. For our size and workload, AKS added complexity that made everyday development and change harder than necessary.
We made the decision to move to a PaaS-based setup with independently deployed APIs. This reduced operational friction and made it easier to evolve the platform as the product and market change.
